The Dane County Farmers’ Market on the Square is a Saturday and Wednesday tradition in Madison, Wisconsin. The Farmers' Market on the Square has about 150 vendors who attend every Saturday. All of the agriculturally-related items that are sold at the Farmers Market are produced in Wisconsin by the sellers. No re-sale items are allowed.
On Saturdays, there are actually four different attactions going on at the same time. The Dane County Farmers' Maket is the main attraction and these vendors line the outside of the capitol grounds. The interior of the state capitol grounds is used for non-profit, political, and public information booths and for various entertainment activities. Permits must be obtained from the Capitol Police. Across the street from the Farmers' Market, there are arts and crafts and concession stands. Permits for these booths are handled through the City of Madison. To add to the festivities, many street musicians show up to play for the crowds.
Do NOT bring your dog to the Farmer's Market. Dogs are against the rules so keep them away from the square. Make sure you do not walk against the flow of people. You should walk around the square in a counter-clockwise direction.
